As part of the redevelopment of the East Perth Power Station, ATCO must relocate some of its key gas infrastructure from the site to a new location in Bayswater where we will upgrade existing ATCO assets. To reinforce and connect the network, ATCO will need to install a new 7.5km pipeline.

Significant work has been undertaken to understand the best, most efficient and least disruptive route for relocating the gas infrastructure and laying pipelines in the Bayswater and Dianella area.

The areas that will be impacted by the relocation of the gas infrastructure and new pipeline are predominantly Railway Parade from the Tonkin Highway Bridge, Grand Promenade, and Alexander Drive with connecting streets also impacted. (View the detailed map above)

Some works will be required to relocate the Pressure Reduction Station to a temporary site located off Summers Street, along the Swan River, behind Joel Terrace and minor works will be completed in the Summers Street, East Perth location. DevelopmentWA will provide immediate residents and the nearby community further information about these works as it becomes available.

ATCO is expected to commence works progressively from Q1, 2022, initially with the installation of 7.5kms of pipeline from Bayswater to Dianella. Existing pipelines along Summers Street, East Perth will need to be connected with the new pipeline, bypassing the old East Perth site.  

To maintain the integrity of the metropolitan gas network, an upgraded pressure reduction facility will be installed and commissioned at Bayswater. 

The Bayswater to Dianella pipeline and Summers Street works should be completed Q4, 2022 with the Pressure Reduction Station being built in Bayswater following the pipeline works.

If you live, work or attend venues along the project route you may encounter traffic delays and some noise. More detail will be provided to those impacted as work becomes imminent.

We appreciate that construction can involve unavoidable noisy work however we will do everything we can to reduce the noise of the works when operating close to business premises and homes and most work will be between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday.

Our process involves using a combination of open trenches and trenchless technology to install gas mains. 

The trenchless method greatly reduces the time needed to complete works as well as reducing the impact to pedestrians, road users and businesses in the area.

Excavations will still be required predominantly along roads to get the pipes underground, however traffic controllers will be onsite to ensure pedestrians can move safely around the area.

For the safety of workers, residents and road users, there may be some temporary lane closures, detours or road closures while work is taking place. In these cases, notice will be given beforehand and traffic management will be put in place. Please follow the detours that are in place.

No, there will be no planned interruptions to gas supply as a result of these works.

Building a pipeline involves digging open the ground to access pipes, valves and pits. This may impact roads, verges, driveways and footpaths.

We are committed to returning areas affected by our work to as close to their original condition as reasonably feasible. We will work closely with local councils and affected property owners to try to meet restoration expectations wherever possible.
