Sep 2022 - Safety upgrade completed on Cabbage Tree Road, Williamtown

The multimillion-dollar upgrade of Cabbage Tree Road is complete, with motorists now experiencing a smoother and safer journey.

The $4 million upgrade was jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales (NSW) governments through the Road Safety Program.

From 2013 to 2018 there were 11 crashes on Cabbage Tree Road and improving safety has been a priority.

Port Stephens Council was engaged to carry out the work which included widening the 2.6-kilometre section of the road to provide motorists with a 3.5-metre-wide travel lane and 1.5-metre-wide sealed shoulders.

The Australian Government has committed $540 million and the NSW Government a further $177 million towards road safety improvement works under the first three tranches of the Road Safety Program.
