UPDATE: Hi everyone - expressions of interest are now closed. To ensure a fair selection process it won’t be possible to accept any further applications. Thanks for the huge interest and support we have received. ****************** I am excited to announce that expressions of interest are now open for the Lived Experience Advisory council at The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission. Please share with your networks! The Commission is seeking expressions of interest from people with lived or living experience of domestic, family and sexual violence to appoint up to twelve members to a national Lived Experience Advisory Council. Sexual violence has such a life changing impact, but yet we still don’t fully understand the impact. Great to see this on your agenda Micaela.
Another example of the reasons I appreciate and value your work Micaela Cronin . You inspire sector shift and endorse change in critical spaces !
This advisory committee is not new, as similar positions already exist in Victoria. To comprehend the potential for change, we must explore what distinguishes this new initiative and its ability to authentically represent the voices of those affected by family violence and sexual assault. We must ask: How will this new initiative differ from the current system, which has consistently failed to deliver desired outcomes? The selection of 12 individuals to represent the experiences of two million people affected by family violence and sexual assault. Can these representatives transcend their personal narratives and prioritise the broader needs of all affected? Or will they inadvertently push specific agendas? These 12 representatives must not merely echo past voices. Given substantial funding in this sector with minimal improvement and reports of harm within the very services that should be protective, accountability is paramount. The broken family violence system requires a fundamental overhaul that goes beyond surface changes and more of the same.
What an awesome opportunity! I will share with my networks, and our charities Not-for-Profit & Charity #Community #Consultants (NFPCCC) #Indigenous & #LGBT #Charity #diversity and Diverse Communities & Social Services (DCSS Australia) Community Justice & Social Services Charity Please contact me, as I may be able to assist as well.

Wonderful initiative. It would be a privilege and honour to be chosen as I put in an EOI , but besides that I hope that the suggestions I put into my application are useful.
The best way to address issues is to go to the source. Victims will finally get a chance to be heard.
What a great opportunity to use #livedexperience to co-design policies for a safer Australia!

8moThis is a groundbreaking survivor-led moment, and I couldn’t be prouder of the role that the Independent Collective of Survivors (ICOS) has played in bringing this opportunity to life. Two years ago, ICOS was instrumental in drafting the campaign documents and terms of reference that laid the foundation for this Council. We met with ministers, spoke to the media, and worked tirelessly to ensure that lived and living experiences are central to policy-making and systemic change. Thank you Commissioner Micaela Cronin and the DFSV Commission for your authentic leadership and unwavering commitment to centering lived and living experience. We are so grateful. In solidarity ❤️✊🏼
