Northam Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint two (2) dedicated, innovative, highly competent and enthusiastic Home Economics Teachers with excellent interpersonal skills.

About the role
The successful applicants will be highly motivated; student and relationship focused and able to provide engaging, relevant and meaningful learning experiences. They will utilise innovative initiatives and be able to work effectively within a dynamic team. This will involve reflecting and assessing the effectiveness of teaching practices and cultivating a safe learning environment. This extends to utilising evidence-based teaching practices whilst employing a range of assessment and reporting methods. With effective interpersonal skills, they will work closely with students, teachers and the community to instil rigour, resilience and pride, allowing students to achieve to their full potential.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience in teaching across some of the Home Economics suite of courses from lower school Foods, Textiles, Hospitality and Child Development to senior courses of Materials Design and Technology – Textiles, Food Science Technology and Children, Family and Community. Northam SHS also encompasses a state-of-the-art Hospitality Trade Training Centre which opened in 2012. The centre is home to SILO, an industry standard café work simulation environment, operated by students undertaking Certificate II in Cookery and Certificate II in Hospitality. It is desirable that the successful applicant, will have industry experience and/or qualification in one of these areas. Applicants open to undertaking Certificate IV Training and Assessment or Certificate II in either Cookery or Hospitality are encouraged to apply.
Northam SHS has embarked on the WA Positive Behaviour School program (PBS) so an understanding of this process and how it is implemented and embedded in the day-to-day operations and behaviours in the school is highly desirable. The school has also commenced work on an Instructional Strategies Framework so a deep understanding of “Teaching For Impact” would be beneficial.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
