Kyneton High School

Senior Years Subject Selection 2023

WELCOME

Welcome to the Senior Years of study. This website is a resource for students and their parents/guardians which is designed to assist students and parents to understand the structure of our Senior Years Program at Kyneton High School. It has been compiled to enable students to make informed choices when selecting a course of subjects that supports their career aspirations and associated pathways.

Our Senior Years curriculum is designed to allow students:

  • Breadth and depth of study: The flexibility of our Senior Program encourages all students to take a variety of studies, while providing them with the ability to specialise in a particular area. Students should carefully choose subjects to prepare them for a range of possible career options, and should not choose subjects that may overly restrict their career choices.

  • Pursue interests and develop talents: It is advised students choose subjects they enjoy as they often perform better in these subjects. Beware of choosing subjects based on the impact of scaling in calculating the ATAR. Choosing subjects purely because they are ‘scaled up’ is not recommended, and it may actually disadvantage students when they choose studies in which they are not strong in. The choice of subjects may ultimately determine how a student may spend a large proportion of their life and career, therefore they are advised to select subjects that will satisfy a future they are interested in.

All students will attend their one-one-one course counselling interview with experienced Careers Advisors, scheduled to be held at school from 1st to 5th August . The caring and personalised support provided by our staff will ensure that our students reach their potential in their senior years and is a unique characteristic of our school, based on positive, respectful relationships.

THE NEXT STEP

For those Families who were unable to watch the on-line 2023 Year 10 into 11 Course Information Webinar, the powerpoint is available below. Once students have carefully checked this website, and received their one-on-one course counselling with a Careers Advisor, will then need to log into the EDVAL SUBJECT CHOICE website to choose their subjects. Students will need their webcode which will be provided by Careers Advisors during course counselling week to log into the Edval System.

Parent/carers will be notified of their student's final subject selection choices and asked to sign an approval form when the course counselling process is completed.
