NSN4SC's Journey of Discovery, Learning and Relationship Building

Prepared by NSN4SC project staff and NS GovLab staff. This report outlines the final learnings gathered as the NSN4SC concluded in 2022. This represents the voices of network members, wisdom sharers and elders who have participated in, shaped and guided the work of the NSN4SC. It tells the collective story of our journey and experiences to build a network in a visual storybook format. The document can be viewed by clicking on the "Building a Network" Image above.


Prepared by Horizons Community Development Associates Inc. and submitted to the partners in February 2022. This is an in-depth report of NSN4SC’s Year 2 and 3 annual evaluation. Navigating Loss & Grief in the Time of Covid-19

On November 24th 2021, the NSN4SC were joined by Pastor Rhonda Britton and Linda Carvery for a session on Navigating Loss and Grief during the Time of Covid-19. During the sessions, both speakers shared their stories and wisdom on grief and loss.

The Power of Connection Across Generations

On February 10th 2021, the NSN4SC hosted a panel discussion with special guests Dr. Lynn Jones, Raven Davis and Quentrel Provo. This session explored the similarities and differences in change-work across generations and the importance of intergenerational connection and collaboration.

Explore. Connect. Share. Open Conversations

On May 26th 2021, the NSN4SC hosted Explore. Connect. Share. Open Conversations. This event used Open Space Technology to allow participants to bring discussions topics that they wanted to explore with others. Throughout this session, participants explored topics such as seniors and housing, trauma and healing, jobs for seniors, volunteerism, and the impact of Covid-19.

Voices from Community: The Unspoken Connections Between Mental Health and Aging

On September 28th 2021, the NSN4SC were joined by special guests Mary Desmond, Lana MacLean & Sharon Davis-Murdoch for a conversation exploring mental health and aging, in African Nova Scotian communities.

"In Season" with Shelley Fashan

On July 14th 2021 , the NSN4SC screened "In Season", a short glimpse into a memorable matriarch, Sarah Bundy, lovingly known as Aunt Sadie. Mrs. Bundy was born and raised on Riley Road, named after her ancestors in the Black community of Cherry Brook. "Nursing Home, Mom & Me" with Susan MacLeod & Melinda Daye

On November 30 2021, the NSN4SC screened “Nursing Home, Mom and Me, a short video created by Susan MacLeod about her experience navigating her mother through long-term care. This was followed by a conversation with Susan and community advocate Melinda Daye about their experiences with the long-term care system.
