Canning Vale Primary School 23rd September 2019

Daniel Bergin????
Principal's Message

Welcome to the final newsletter of the term - I can't believe we are heading into the final term of the 2019 school year. We are very busy planning for 2020 and I'd like to thank those families who have let us know if they won't be returning next year. If you know you will be relocating and your child/ren will be leaving us - please let Sarah in the front office know as a matter of urgency. Our student numbers impact both our class structures and our budget so having accurate information is crucial as we make plans for next year.

We have recently had signs installed stating that playgrounds are out of bounds before and after school (including the entire early childhood playground). There are a number of reasons for this as stated in previous newsletters. The large 'adventure playground' (outside De Grey) will remain open for 30 minutes after school, so please feel free to meet and hang out up there after school.

I am very pleased to announce that the canteen has been sorted and we hope to have it open early Term 4. There is some logistics still being finalised and more information will follow early next term. This is good news - stay tuned!

Ms Della-Vedova will be returning from her Long Service Leave in Term 4. I'd like to thank Mrs Ralph for all her hard work as she stepped into the Deputy role this term. Mrs Ralph tells me that she has had a great time working with Mr Hogg but is looking forward to getting back to her class!

Have a wonderful holiday... and please remember that Term 4 starts on Tuesday October 14th for students. Stay safe, Daniel.

Charlie Chaplain's Chat

Thought for the fortnight

To be human is to desire a life free of conflict. Often at the first hint of tension, and long before the possible escalation of disagreement, most of us have chosen to escape to the relative safety of avoidance. And whilst this action does indeed afford us some short-term relief, in the long run it usually does little more than potentially place a band aid on the brewing pressure within and without. The truth is, it’s been said the more you try to dodge disagreement to preserve the peace, you’re more likely to start a battle inside yourself instead. Author Max Lucado states, “Conflict is inevitable…… but, combat is optional”.

How then can we navigate our way through these expected relational struggles? There are two ways we humans tend to handle conflict, either as Peacekeepers or Peacemakers. Although both seek the shared concept of interpersonal harmony, the way it’s achieved are opposite. To gain a better understanding, we’ll look at the differences between being a Peacekeeper versus striving to be a Peacemaker.

Finally, one more thought……………

Athletics Carnival 2019

Well it is clear to say that the weather gods were happy with us on Friday as it was a perfect day for an Athletics Carnival. The turnout from the parents was amazing and the kids were in very high spirits from the get go.

It was a sea of blue, yellow, green and red as they marched down to the bays and prepared for the first event. Their chanting was deafening and uplifting at the same time! Throughout the day we saw some great competition and some even better sportsmanship between students. Well done to all of the winners but more importantly, well done to all students as they helped create one of the best carnivals in CVPS history!

Some students did experience success on the day and walked away with a trophy. They were:

Champions: Hannah, Peter, Larrisa, Hunter, Kia, Levi, Bethany, Callum

Runner-Up Champions: Chloe, Harley, Kiani & Mania, Henry, Sarah, Hamish, Remy, Boyd

3rd Place: Maddi, Zane, Meehak, Reece, Vivienne, Abinash, Kate, Beau

The points for the Houses overall were:

  • 2nd Place - Stuart with 811 Points
