Canning Vale Primary School 24 February 2020 Newsletter

Principal's Message

Welcome to the first official newsletter of 2020.

As I stated in my correspondence at the start of the term, the year has started off incredibly well. The transition program we set up at the end of 2018 was refined at the end of 2019 and we are now at the point when the start of this year was so smooth, it's like we never even had a holiday! I am so proud of each student. They came back to school with such a wonderful and positive attitude and are working so hard to achieve their goals and make this a great year. A big thank you to all school staff and parents who have helped to make this happen.

Over the holidays (and into this term) we have upgraded some toilet blocks around the school thanks to the 'maintenance blitz' funding we received from the State Government. The Pre-Primary bathrooms, Murchison bathrooms and Harding Bathrooms have all had a spruce up and are looking bright and fresh. We are continuously looking for ways to update and refresh tired looking areas of the school and I hope you have been able to see some of the improvements being made and taking shape over the past couple of years. There is more in the pipeline - so stay tuned!

If you didn't come down to the P&C Family Picnic this year you missed out on a fantastic evening. The food was simply amazing and the weather was superb. A big thank you to the P&C, particularly Cris Borges-Vanderwal, for running this event with a great team of helpers. This was a very successful evening and I have received nothing but positive feedback. A truly wonderful way to start the school year.

Our goal for this year is to ramp up our teaching and learning programs and look for ways to better improve outcomes for all our students. We are a school on the move - always looking forward, always trying to do things even better. We are developing a group of Language Leaders across the school to lead our literacy programs and develop a plan to make learning visible across Canning Vale Primary School. It's an exciting time and I'm looking forward to the next phase in our school's journey. Thank you for your ongoing support and we work together to make CVPS the absolute best it can be.

Chaplain's Chat

Here we are again, poised and ready to leap into another academic year which will be filled, no doubt, with many exciting and challenging possibilities and opportunities.

My name is Tina Lowther and I’ve now had the pleasure of being your school Chaplain at Canning Vale Primary for the past four years. It’s absolutely a privilege to be part of such a dynamic, child focussed community that continues to maintain a healthy support for the unique service provided by the Chaplaincy role. This year, the Chaplain room has been relocated to Harding Block, Room 1 and will operate each Tuesday to Friday inclusive.

It’s always been my aim to foster and encourage unity and a resilient school community which highlights social and emotional well-being, tolerance and flexibility. But most of all I am here to be a present, compassionate, non-judgemental listening ear and to provide a safe place and space for all our Canning Vale Primary community. Please contact me via email or phone if there is anything you wish to discuss to help make things easier with your child's education.

And finally, something more to ponder as we begin to navigate our way through this term……

'My child, you owe me one thing. You have to jump as high as you can in this life! And as long as I’m alive, I’ll forever be your net' - Vinh Giang

Library News

A warm welcome to all our new students. Three reminders for everyone.

  • You must have a library bag when you come with your class for your library session in order to borrow books. We sell library bags here in the library for $4-50.
  • Please if you can, put your library bag in a different spot to your drink bottle in your school bag, as water and books are not friends.
  • If you have not finished reading your book/s, please remember to bring the book back on your library day and have the book renewed.
