Plus codes work just like street addresses. When an address isn’t available, you can use a plus code to find or share a place on Google Maps, like your home or business.
A plus code includes:
- 6 or 7 letters and numbers
- A town or city
Here’s an example of a plus code: X4HM+3C, Cairo, Egypt.
Find & share a location’s Plus Code
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- Find the location where you want to get a Plus Code. To drop a Pin
at the location, touch and hold the screen.
- At the bottom, tap the “Dropped pin” panel.
- Find the Plus Code beside the Plus Code logo

JJXX+HR8, Seattle. - To copy a location’s code, tap the Plus Code
- To share the location, paste the Plus Code into your email or messaging app, just as you would do for a traditional address.

To search for a location with a Plus Code:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
- At the top, in the search box, enter the Plus Code.
- To search a town or city you’re not currently in: Enter a Plus Code with a town or city name. For example:
JJXX+HR8, Seattle. - To search a town or city you’re currently in: Enter only the 6- or 7-digit Plus Code. For example, if you’re in Seattle, you can directly search for
JJXX+HR8.
