Kuala Lumpur: All five previous champions booked their places in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024™ as the Qualifiers concluded on Tuesday.

Leading the charge were defending champions Saudi Arabia with Iraq (2013), Japan (2016), Uzbekistan (2018) and Korea Republic (2020) also advancing.

Kuala Lumpur: The cast for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024™ was finalised upon the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Tuesday.

The 11 group winners and four best second-placed teams join hosts Qatar in the April 15-May 3, 2024 Finals.

Japan shine; Korea Republic back on winning track; UAE, IR Iran sizzle

Kuala Lumpur: Japan were at their best in a 4-2 win over Turkey in an international friendly on Tuesday while Korea Republic edged Saudi Arabia 1-0 as Jurgen Klinsmann notched his first win as head coach of the East Asian side.

The United Arab Emirates defeated Costa Rica 4-1, Islamic Republic of Iran impressed in a 4-0 victory over Angola while Qatar were again denied a win, with their tie against Russia ending 1-1 no thanks to a 90th minute equaliser.

A host of other Asian teams were in action as they continued their preparations for the Preliminary Joint Qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ and AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.

AFC Cup™: Through the Years

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Cup™ 2023-24 season is edging closer as the competition returns to its usual home-and-away format for the first time in four years. 

Al Seeb Club became the first Omani side to lift the title when they beat Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-0 in last season’s final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
