Helen Mentha

BA (Hons), M.Psych (Clinical), Grad Cert Professional Writing, Grad Cert Business Administration, MAPS, Member of ACPA, Member of MINT

I am a clinical psychologist and specialist trainer in Motivational Interviewing. I worked in the alcohol and other drug sector for the first 13 years of my career, as a therapist, supervisor and manager. Since 2009 I have run my own business providing training, supervision, coaching and consultation for a wide range of helping professionals and organisations.

Initially trained intensively in cognitive behaviour therapy, I soon discovered CBT was valuable but far from enough and that attending carefully to the therapeutic relationship was fundamental. I have completed further training in a range of treatment frameworks, with a particular focus on Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, therapeutic process and supervision.

I was accepted into the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) in 2007 and have actively participated in ongoing professional development in MI each year since joining. I served on the MINT board as a Director from 2016-2018.

I have trained professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds and areas of focus, including alcohol and other drug treatment, mental health, medical and nursing, allied health, community welfare, aged care, forensic, education, HR and executive leadership in corporate settings. I have provided extensive training across Australia, as well as providing training in China, New Zealand, the UK and Canada.

I am committed to ethical, respectful, person-centred care at all levels of service delivery and I am proud to have earned a reputation for providing accessible, engaging, well-informed and practical training in a positive learning environment.

I love what I do and am privileged to support helping professionals to provide a high standard of compassionate and effective care to members of our community, as well as look after themselves to survive and flourish within often challenging work.
