Thousands of hospital staff walked off the job in NSW on Thursday, protesting the spiking numbers of violent assaults in hospitals.

Numerous state inquiries into the violence in hospitals seem to have failed to arrest the problem.

So, what more can be done to protect doctors and nurses on the front line?
