This time it's below the radar FiberSense; a company founded by Mark Englund, a Sonar specialist, who has found a way to use existing land-based telecom fibre assets to sense objects and events in real time to help protect assets.

FiberSense is unseen in the investor community. The company is backed by Englund and some close confidantes, and does not even have a functioning website or social media presence.

That's expected to change in the coming weeks. After five years below the radar, it is understood FiberSense is preparing its first pitch to outside investors, with a Series A funding round to be cornerstoned by PIPE Networks and NEXTDC founder Slattery.

Slattery is expected to increase his stake as part of the raising. He has backed Englund previously and has been a FiberSense director for the past three years and chairman for two years, and will invest again in the Series A round.

The question is who else will follow Slattery into the IT services sector play. His name - and the secretive nature of FiberSense and its technology - is sure to pique interest among family office and venture capital types.

It comes as Slattery has been cutting cheques for a bunch of Australian technology sector juniors. He bankrolled ASX-listed intelliHR earlier this month and 3D mapping company Pointerra in June. Both companies' shares skyrocketed after getting his cash and stamp of approval.
