Alfred Health Carer Services

We are an advisory and support service for unpaid carers located in Melbourne’s south metropolitan region.

 

Navigating supports and services can be difficult on top of all your existing caring responsibilities and other commitments.

Alfred Health Carer Services can help you with information and resources, assist you to identify helpful services in or outside the home and give you some support to manage your own health and wellbeing.

If you’re new to caring or have only just discovered carer support, you may find there’s a lot of information to take in - we can help you.

Services & Supports

    EMERGENCY & PLANNED RESPITE

    ‘Respite’ is when someone else takes care of the person who you care for. This allows carers to take a break.

    Respite is short-term and planned, and emergency respite care is available in times of crisis at short notice.

    CARER SUPPORT PLANNING

    Carer Support Planning helps you access supports through exploring your caring situation. This happens during a conversation with a support worker and takes approximately an hour.

    COUNSELLING

    Professional counsellors can talk to carers about concerns, feelings, or stress. Counsellors can discuss how you can improve your wellbeing and manage your caring role.

    Counselling can be completed over the phone or face-to-face.

    FACILITATED COACHING

    Facilitated Coaching can help carers think about their own life and caring role. Coaches can support carers to set goals and make plans to improve their health and wellbeing. All sessions are one-on-one with a trained coach in person, via telehealth or over the phone.

    There is a community of carers in your local area that you can connect with through peer support groups, events, workshops, and even online forums.

    Navigating supports and services can be overwhelming on top of your caring role and other commitments. We provide free information, advice and referrals.

    COMMONWEALTH HOME SUPPORT PROGRAM

    Our Commonwealth Home Support Program aims to support carers and care relationships. We offer a range of respite services that provide supported activities for older people with care needs, and supports and resources for carers.

    EVENTS & WORKSHOPS

    VIEW OUR LATEST EVENTS

    We run a range of events for carers and their care recipients. Most events are free of charge and are in-person or online via Zoom. All events require registration.
