The Court Grammar Cavaliers AFL/W Academy provides a unique opportunity for male and female students to pursue excellence in Australian Rules Football and embark on a journey of personal growth and development.

The Specialist AFL Program, established in 2017, gives talented Year 5 to 10 students the opportunity to further develop their footballing ability through skill development, gameplay strategies and tactics and theoretical understanding. In Year 11 & 12 students are provide with the option to further improve their understanding of the AFL and Sport industry through our Elite Sports Program.

The Academy follows the structure of a Specialised Physical Education (SPE) class, made up of practical and theoretical lessons. In addition, students are encouraged to learn about the other supporting roles in the game. Students can partake in umpiring and coaching courses, including gaining Western Australia Football Commission Level 1 Umpiring Accreditation and learning Exercise and Sport Science principles such as strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition and Sport Psychology.


Coaching Staff

The Academy is committed to providing players with the highest standard of coaching and teaching. We currently have a Head of AFL/W, and an AFL Specialist in the Academy. All football staff involved in the Academy are accredited AFL coaches with experience coaching at an elite level.

Selection Criteria

The Cavaliers AFL/W Academy caters for full-time current (and future) students enrolled at Court Grammar School.

Selection is based on three sets of criteria:

Academic performance

Attendance and behaviour

Physical skills and fitness (assessed during trials conducted at the College).

A positive attitude towards all aspects of school life will be an important part of selection into the Academy and reports are required from the student’s current school.

Scholarships are awarded across each year cohort on a 12-monthly basis. These are provided to students who rank top of their class. 

Category A 50% reduction in fees
Category B 25% reduction in fees 


Boys in Year 4, 6, 9, 10 and 11 in 2024 can apply for the 2025 intake.

Girls in Year 4-11 in 2024 can apply for the 2025 intake.

Competitions 

Students within the AFL/W Academy compete in endorsed competitions and programs run by the WA Football Commission and the Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC) each year including:
