Craig Ritchie is an Aboriginal man of the Dhunghutti and Biripi nations and is the Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). AIATSIS is a globally known research collections and publishing organisation which promotes knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
Before joining AIATSIS, Craig held several positions as a senior public servant including:
- Branch Manager, International Mobility in the Australian Government Department of Education responsible for the Australian Government’s Endeavour Awards supporting international student and researcher mobility; and
- Branch Manager of the Access and Participation Branch in the Higher Education Reform Group of the Department of Education leading the implementation of the findings of the landmark Review of Access and Outcomes in Higher Education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
Craig was instrumental in the development of the 2022 podcast series, Voices of power, created by AIATSIS in partnership with the Churchill Trust. Craig introduces each episode of the series, which features Indigenous Churchill Fellows from around Australia and explores critical stages in the fight for First Nations rights and self-determination and for meaningful representation in places of power.
