Why automation is critical for healthcare in 2020

Medical practices need to embrace automation and consider various tools to help them throughout their practice from administration to alleviating workload on the medical professionals.

In the recently released Clinic to Cloud 2020 Survey: Building a Better Practice Beyond COVID-19, it shows three reasons why automation is critical for healthcare in 2020. These reasons include, reducing administrative tasks, creating better time management and removing stress on medical staff.

Making administrative tasks efficient

Medical practices need to find ways to streamline their administrative tasks to make life easier for staff and patients alike.

They need to think about ways to improve some of the administration and practice management workflows in order to either strengthen their capability to scale, or provide their team some much-needed downtime to avoid burnout.

Automation is the answer to this.

It is often reported that one hour of patient time equals two hours of administrative work. While in some cases, doctors cannot see fewer patients, particularly amidst a pandemic, they can, however, gain considerable efficiency when it comes to the admin component.

For example, using a cloud-based medical practice software, that outsources some of the admin work back to the patient, allows healthcare practitioners to offer quality, patient-centred care while gaining back many hours wasted in unnecessary administration.

Rafic Habib, CEO at Clinic to Cloud said, “We are seeing that practices are looking towards technology to answer some of these efficiency questions, simultaneously, doctors are looking to make their businesses more profitable and safer for both patients and staff.

"Looking beyond the current situation, the sector is craving more decision support, connectivity and audit trails that provide more protection for the patient and the healthcare worker without compromising the quality of care. I believe digital health will be at the forefront of every healthcare discussion moving forward.”

Creating better time management

Poor time management is a direct result of not automating where it would be simpler to do so.

Patryk Kania, Chief Operating Officer at Clinic to Cloud said poor time-management is the result of not knowing how to leverage technology to support workflows and make admin more efficient.

He explains, “It’s like team sports. If everybody runs around and is exhausted after a 90-minute soccer match, the team manager might need to ask if they have the right strategy. If everyone on the team runs back and forth, trying to do everything, then, of course, they are exhausted, and although may score a goal, they are also likely to lose the game.

“But efficiency is all about collaboration. And using the right tools, systems and processes to eliminate administrative waste and free up more valuable time.”

Removes stress on medical staff

Using a cloud-based tool automates so many parts of a clinic that frees up time for medical professionals.

These professionals can access information 24/7 from their devices at home or at the practice. This is particularly important for those who are in high pressure medical based jobs like surgeons.

Dr Chantel Thornton, an in-demand Specialist Breast Cancer Surgeon said, “When you have a heavy patient load, it's difficult to recall specific details of patients without looking at their file so having all that information at hand 24 hours a day no matter where you are is actually life-changing.”
