Located in Rowers Park, Corowa, the shed was inundated with water in November last year for several weeks. While electrical equipment was moved to above the expected level of water inundations, there were a number of items that could not be raised, which were impacted by water to the point of not being safe to use.
Rowing Club President Neville Hetherington said the club had used the funds to purchase a new portable air con, recently used at the Murray Rowing Association’s Rutherglen Regatta, and a new portable fridge. The remaining funds will be used to repair internal doors damaged by flood water and repairs to a boat that was also damaged.
“I would like to thank the Corowa RSL Club for their generous funding,” Mr Hetherington said.
“We missed out on flood support because of cross-border issues with our shed location so it’s really fantastic to have the RSL Club help us out.
“We’ve had a long-standing great relationship with the Corowa RSL Club and appreciate their ongoing support.”
Corowa RSL Club CEO said he was pleased the club could offer support to those in need.
“I am so proud to be involved with a board who have identified the urgency and hardship in our local communities and willing to contribute a large sum of cash to be available immediately to support recovery,” he said.
“The Corowa RSL Club plays a critical role in the local community, mostly as a place to bring people together, but in times like these we also have an important role to play to ensure our communities come back from these difficult periods.”
