Eligibility

Most Victorian businesses can participate in the VEU program and be eligible for incentives for energy-efficient products and services.

You can participate in the VEU program in the hotel, retail, industry, residential care, city councils or any other Victorian business.

However, Victoria’s largest energy users, approximately 100 businesses, are exempt from the VEU program and have to opt-in to access incentives.

Your participation is voluntary.

How much can I save?

Depending on the size of your business and the upgrade/s, you can save between $500 and $74,000 a year on energy costs.

How to participate

To access discount products and services through the VEU program, you need to work with an accredited provider authorised to install energy-efficient products under the VEU program.

The Essential Services Commission approves each registered product under the program to meet minimum efficiency, quality and safety benchmarks.

Getting started

Participating in the program is easy.

  1. Look at the available products.
  2. Choose the products you want to install to reduce your energy costs.
  3. Engage an accredited provider.

You need to work with an accredited provider authorised to install VEU energy-efficient products. Accredited providers are also responsible for organising a discount or rebate for any products you choose to install.

They will tell you:

  • what products can you use
  • who can install the products you choose.

Your rights under the VEU program

The VEU program has a code of conduct that sets out minimum standards of behaviour. It is aimed at protecting consumers. The code applies to everyone involved in delivering or marketing upgrades.

Find out what an accredited provider or third party operating on their behalf must do if they contact you about the VEU program.

How the VEU program works

Victorian Energy Upgrades is a government energy efficiency program. Households and businesses can receive rebates or discounts on energy-saving products. This helps cut power bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Program expansion

The VEU program is making it easier and cheaper to make energy-efficient upgrades that save energy and lower bills.

The program now also provides subsidies to businesses to replace inefficient gas boilers with energy-efficient electric alternatives.
