Adelaide Plains Water Allocation Plan

The Adelaide Plains Water Allocation Plan (the Plan) became operational on 1 July 2022.

The Plan sets out the rules for the licensing, allocation and management of groundwater and wells within the area shown on the map below. This includes rules for managing water that is drained or discharged into aquifers, also known as managed aquifer recharge.

Water licences will soon be re-issued in a different format scheduled to occur in 2023. At that time water licence holders will receive further information explaining the new licence format. The changes will not affect water licence entitlements.

The Plan replaces the former Northern Adelaide Plains WAP, and is the first water allocation plan for the Dry Creek and Central Adelaide Prescribed Wells Areas. The Plan will apply for the next 10 years, unless it is reviewed and amended sooner.

Implementation of the Plan is a joint responsibility of the Department for Environment and Water, Green Adelaide and the Northern and Yorke, and Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Boards.
