Since 1996, Top End Women’s Legal Service (TEWLS) has been dedicated to advancing women’s rights by providing free legal services for women and non-binary people experiencing disadvantage in the Top End of the Northern Territory (primarily, the greater Darwin region).

Through an integrated, holistic, trauma informed and culturally secure approach, they support their clients with intersectional vulnerabilities in the areas of family, migration and civil law with specific expertise in respect to domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).

Your Impact

You will be responsible for promoting and help develop the newly created workplace sexual harassment and discrimination (WSHD) practice whilst providing legal assistance to clients.

Specifically you will:

• Maintain a caseload of complex legal matters
• Conduct litigation files and participate in dispute resolution
• Work closely with pro bono service providers
• Coordinate and deliver legal education, information and outreach services to the community specifically related to WSHD
• Develop and nurture a wide range of stakeholder relationships to deliver outreach services and support referral pathways

What you bring

You are a lawyer who is committed to advancing and promoting the interests of women with relevant experience working in the legal assistance sector or in a law firm.

You have a naturally empathetic style and can communicate information in a sensitive manner when dealing with diverse clients with complex vulnerabilities including women from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse and migrant backgrounds.

You also have:

• A practicing certificate in Northern Territory or are willing to obtain one
• Subject matter expertise in WSHD and/or adjacent, family law, family & sexual violence, migration and/or civil law
• An understanding or capacity to develop an understanding to working in a trauma-informed framework
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Highly effective stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills; an ability to build trust and collaboration with a cross section of the community and sector partners
• A current drivers licence and a Northern Territory Ochre Card (or willing to obtain one)
