Our festival wouldn’t take place without the generous support of our partners and sponsors. Each year, we invite organisations and individuals to consider how they can make an impact and engage with our community and festival attendees.
Due to the devastating floods on Gurindji Country, planning for the 2023 festival has been postponed. At this stage, it's unlikely a big, multi-day event will take place. However, please keep an eye on our socials and this website for future announcements.
Please consider donating to the flood relief appeal (button up top).
Freedom Day is a free entry, free bush-camping event. However, we strongly encourage visitors to register and to contribute what they can afford to attend. Please support our non-profit, community-run event.
If free bush camping isn’t your thing, stay in style! Let us set up a fancy Earth Tent for you (ready to go with mattress & sleeping bag). Only 100 available. Total cost includes four nights (Aug 25, 26, 27, 28).

There are many ways to take part in the Gurindji Freedom Day Festival, including sponsoring, donating, volunteering, performing, having a stall and playing sport. We encourage people to roll up their sleeves and help make our event a success.
The Gurindji story is widely known for the legendary Wave Hill Walk-off in the 1960s and 1970s. Lead by Vincent Lingiari, some 200 people bravely walked away from the awful conditions they had endured working on Lord Vestey’s cattle station. What began as a fight for better wages, soon became a bigger battle to rightfully take back their land.
We’ll keep you in the loop with festival updates.
