ACC understands that to do better for Māori we need to do things differently. We understand our responsibilities to Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We want to ensure Māori have options in accessing services and can exercise mana motuhake. We recognise the need to protect mātauranga Māori, build genuine partnerships and empower Māori to participate fully in their hauora.
With a primary focus on wellbeing to prevent harm and improve the care that’s delivered to whānau when injured, we’re seeking to develop kaupapa Māori solutions. In August 2022, we’ll be looking for partners in Te Tai Tokerau and Tāmaki Makaurau rohe to design:
• Kaupapa Māori health services to be delivered by Māori, with a focus on services to support kiritaki (clients) and whānau with complex injuries (including, but not limited to, sexual violence and serious injuries); and
• Kaupapa Māori-informed injury prevention initiatives to be delivered by Māori, with a focus on the primary prevention of sexual violence. These initiatives for whānau to know about mana-enhancing and tapu-enriched relationships will enable locally-led responses and embrace local mātauranga.
Design Process Overview
We will establish a design panel in each rohe that will deliver two specific outcomes: kaupapa Māori health services and kaupapa Māori informed injury prevention initiatives. These design panels will work with relevant kiritaki groups and other key parties to collaboratively plan and design appropriate solutions.
This opportunity relates to the design process only. Kaupapa Māori providers who are interested in delivering the services, rather than being involved in their design, will have an opportunity to be involved once design is completed.
