I have been in lockdown for over 15 years every single day as I have no way of being transported. I need to be transported lying 180 degrees flat on a stretcher bed due to chronic pain in my hips and hamstrings. I only have a sitting tolerance of 5 - 10 minutes so I can only go about 5 minutes km radius from my home.
The funds would be used for one of these model vans (compiled by a specialist Occupational Therapist and Engineer), which are the only vans that will meet safety regulations for installing the disability modifications needed including stretcher bed:
Hyundai Imax
Volkswagen Multi van
Kia Carnival
LDV People Mover
Honda Odyssey
Mercedes Valente
They range from $17,600 - $36,000 for an approved van of no more than 5 years old, which is preferable. I will have to pay for part of the disability mods (if it is more than 5 years old).
Please help me get out, so I can be a part of the world and see my family. I miss out on absolutely everything in life including all significant family celebrations like birthdays, Christmas, Weddings my nieces and nephews school performances, etc. I haven't been on any kind of holiday for over 10 years. Not even a day beach trip in so many years. I just need regular changes in environment and different sensory experiences to help me manage my mental health. Since everyone has experienced lockdown, hopefully it is easier to imagine a small part of what I go through everyday and how it wears you down on all levels (along with the chronic pain and many disabilities I have to permanently endure).
I have tried every possible avenue to apply for funding over the last 5 years with no success! I have tried local charities, research into non-emergency patient transport which doesn't guarantee my safety and financially prohibitive, wrote letters to the local MP and both minister and Federal minister for Disability, sought advice and treatment from various Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Doctors, Support Coordinators, Specialist Support Coordinators, Advocates, Disability Associations and support Organisations. I contacted Hyundai and Volkswagen car manufacturers directly for help. I went on The project television show to help fund for treatment and that did not work (as that could have helped towards this), but did not raise even one single dollar from that appearance that was so mentally and emotionally challenging for me!
I am high risk for COVID with multiple immune suppression factors so I am already severely restricted in my movements and this has added another layer of complexity to my being caged at home. There is no reason for me to be on this earth without the means to be a part of it. Please help me be able to connect with the outside world and my family again and have more of the opportunities that both normal and other disabled people have. People don't generally understand my situation or how soul destroying it is.
