TERM 1 – BACK TO BASICS.

Lesson 1

Welcome to Scripture.

Students understand the purpose and expectations of scripture

Students develop understanding of key terms (Allah, Islam, Muslim).

Students understand the Muslim greeting in Arabic and English.

Students understand the significance of attending scripture

Students extend understanding of key terms (including, Allah, Islam, Muslim, good deeds, rewards/ hasanat).

Students understand the Muslim greeting in English and Arabic and practice responding to the Muslim greeting.

Students extend understanding of the significance of attending scripture

Lesson 2

Shahadah

Students learn the two critical parts to the Shahadah and that it is the first of the 5 Pillars of Islam.

Students learn that Muslims say Subhana wa Ta’ala, (SWT) to glorify Allah.

Students are introduced to the concept of Tawhid (belief in One God).

Students practice saying Subhana wa Ta’ala, to glorify Allah when His Name is mentioned.

Students understanding of the importance of believing in both Allah SWT and His final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Students understand the importance of the concept of Tawhid.

Students understand ways to implement this Tawhid in their everyday lives.

Students can identify in Arabic and English both parts of the Shahadah.

Lesson 3

Salah, Zakat & Hajj

Students understand the importance of Salah/ prayer as the second Pillar of Islam and some of its requirements (e.g., to pray 5 times a day and are introduced to Wudu).

Students understand the third Pillar of Islam is paying Zakat, a charity to help the needy and the last Pillar is the pilgrimage (Hajj).

Students understand some of the significance and importance of these Pillars of Islam.

Students understand some elements about Salah, e.g. compulsory (Fard) & recommended but optional (Sunnah/ Naafil) prayers, names and times for Fard (compulsory) prayers, requirements for prayer (e.g. Wudu, Qiblah, clean space, focus, dress requirements).

Students can recognise these Pillars in both Arabic and English terms.

Students explore ways to work towards implementing these Pillars in their lives.

Students extend understanding of importance and benefits of these Pillars for themselves, others and the world.

Lesson 4

Ramdan

Students learn the fourth Pillar of Islam is fasting the month of Ramadan and when this occurs.

Students develop understanding of who fasts, how and why we fast

Students extend understanding of the purpose and some of the benefits of fasting Ramadan.

Students learn about special Ramadan prayers.

Students learn about some of the impacts of this Pillar for their everyday lives and for the world.


Lesson 5

Ramadan, Month of the Qur’an

Students are introduced to the Qur’an and understand that it was revealed in Ramadan.

Students learn some benefits of reciting and understanding the Qur’an.

Students reflect on their connection with the Qur’an and ways they can enhance this in Ramadan.

Students understand the importance of the Qur’an in Ramadan and in their everyday lives.

Lesson 6

Ramadan Practices.

Students extend understanding of good deeds to be practised in Ramadan and actions to avoid.


Students reflect on good deeds they can practise in Ramadan and actions to avoid.

Students identify good deeds they can practice in and out of Ramadan.

Students identify good deeds and ways they can implement them this Ramadan.

Students reflect on ways these good deeds could impact their daily lives and others, and the world, in and out of Ramadan.

Lesson 7

Last 10 nights of Ramadan

Students develop understanding of the importance of the Last 10 Days and Layat al Qadr and good deeds to do during this time.

Students learn the importance of Dua and practice making Dua.


Students practice making Dua, including the recommended Dua for Laylat al Qadr.

Students learn some etiquettes of Dua (supplication) and making repentance (Tawbah).

Students reflect on good deeds to practice in the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

Students are introduced to Surat (chapter) Al Qadr (Night of Power) (87, Qur’an) and understand the importance of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.


Lesson 8

Eid Al-Fitr

Students learn about Eid al-Fitr is and ways to prepare for it.


Students understand some of the etiquettes of Eid al-Fitr,


Students understand the importance of the Eid prayer and paying Zakat al-Fitr.

Students understand they should carry lessons learnt in Ramadan post Ramadan and throughout the year.


TERM 2 – KNOW ALLAH (SWT), STRENGTHEN IMAN

Lesson 1

Belief in Allah (1)

Students are introduced to the term Iman (faith and what it means to believe in Allah (SWT).

Students understand there are 6 Pillars of Iman (faith), with belief in Allah being the first, and that the 6 Pillars help develop our understanding of Allah SWT and what this life is about.

Students recap understanding that Allah SWT is One and that believing in this makes us Muslim.

Students are introduced to Surat Al Ikhlas (Chapter 112, Qur’an).

Students understand some Attributes of Allah, including those described in Surah al-Ikhlas (Qur’’an 112), e.g., Al-Ahad, the Unique, One and Only.

Students understand Iman increases and decreases according to good or bad deeds.

Students understand Tawheed is the central core of our religion and this belief impacts on our actions

Students understand learn that we demonstrate our belief in Allah through our actions and in our everyday lives.

Students understand all the Pillars of Iman are connected and reinforce their understanding of Allah SWT and who He is and what this life and the next is about.

Students understand some of the significance of this Surah for their lives.

Lesson 2

Belief in Allah (2).

Students develop their understanding of belief in Allah by learning some of His attributes described in Ayat Al-Kursi (Verse 222: Chapter 2).

Students learn Ayat Al-Kursi is known as the greatest Ayah of the Qur’an).

Students learn that Ayat al Kursi (Verse 222: Chapter 2) teaches us about Allah SWT.

Students understand that Allah is The Unique, The Alone, The Perfect, and the Master whom everything depends totally upon, The One Who has no Partner in His Lordship.

Students extend understanding of Allah SWT and some of His Attributes and ways this impacts on our everyday lives,

Students understand some of the significance of this Surah for their lives.

Lesson 3

Belief in the Angels

Students understand the concept of Angels and the unseen world in Islam in Islam.

Students understand that Angels have special roles given to them by Allah SWT.

Students expand their consciousness of Angels in their everyday lives and how this can enhance their character.

Students understand all the Pillars of Iman reinforce their understanding of Allah SWT and who He is and ways this should impact our everyday life.

Lesson 4

Belief in the Books

Students are introduced to the belief that Allah SWT sent books to help guide people.

Students learn that our book, the Qur’an, is the final Book and unchanged word of Allah SWT.

Students understand that the Qur’an and the originals of other Books came with the same message as a guide to help people.

Students understand some of the significance of Allah SWT’s last Book, the Qur’an.

Students can list some names of the Books and the Prophets that brought each Book.

Students understand ways belief in Allah’s Words in the Qur’an should impact our everyday life.

Lesson 5

Belief in His Messengers

Students recap what a Messenger is, and that Allah SWT sent Messengers to people to help us and guide us.

Students understand all Messengers had great character and all came with the same message, to believe in Allah SWT alone.

Students learn some names of Messengers mentioned in the Qur’an.

Students review learning about the final and greatest Prophet and Messenger, Muhammad SAW.

Students understand the relevance and benefits of learning about Prophets for our everyday lives.

Students review ways we can follow the guidance and apply lessons learnt from Prophets in our everyday lives.

Lesson 6

Belief in Judgement Day and Qadr (Destiny)

Students learn this is the Day that our good and bad deeds are counted, and the Day we receive our records/ books.

Students learn the definition of Qadr (Destiny).

Students learn not to belittle any good or bad deed.

Students understand that after this life will be an Akhira (eternal afterlife).

Students learn that our actions are weighed and how important good character is on this Day.

Students understand that all things happen in accordance with Allah SWT’s Will and Plan.

Students understand ways these beliefs should impact our everyday lives.

Students understand that this life and world is temporary and that the primary importance and goal of this life is to work for the Akhira (next life).

Lesson 7

The first 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

Students understand some of the importance of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah and the Day of Arafah.

Students brainstorm good deeds to do during this time.

Students practice making Dua.

Students practice making Dua especially the recommended Dua for the Day of Arafah.

Students understand it is important to make Dua on the day of Arafah.

Students reflect on good deeds they can do during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah and the day of Arafah.

Students reflect on acts of worship and good deeds they can practice in Dhul Hijjah and the benefits these would have for their lives and others, including outside of Dhul Hijjah.

Students learn about the best Dua to be said on the Day of Arafah.

Eid Al Adha

Students learn about Eid al Adha and how to prepare for it.

His Deen, the Straight Path.

Students extend understanding about who Allah is and the Deen (way of life) He wants for us by understanding parts of Surat Al Fatiha (Chapter 1, Qur’an).

Students learn this Surah is considered the greatest Surah in the Qur’an.

Students understand that Allah SWT loves and wants to guide and connect to us through the Qur’an and that Surat Al-Fatiha as an example of this.

Students understand our belief in Allah and understanding of this Surah should influence our behaviour, words and thoughts throughout our day.

Students extend understanding of Allah SWT, His Words (through Surat Al Fatiha) and the Deen (religion and way of life Allah chose for us) and ways to apply this understanding in their everyday life.
