The Early Learning Centre at Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School offers three-year-old (Kinder) and four-year-old (PrePrep) programs. The ELC is a place where young children grow and learn through play, laughter, imaginative experiences, wonderful literature and nurturing relationships.

The ELC is fortunate to take advantage of the rich educational opportunities on offer, and children enjoy weekly classes with Art, Music, Languages and PE speciality teachers. 

Reggio Emilia Approach

Our Early Learning Centre draws on the best practice and theory from the Reggio Emilia Philosophy and the Australian Early Years Learning Framework. 

The image of the child is one of the principles that has most informed our practice. Each one of us has an image of the "child' that impacts how we connect, react and respond with them. At the Early Learning Centre, we believe that if we view children as competent and capable we will help build their independence, resilience, social skills and wellbeing. Helping children to see themselves as capable is one of the first goals we have for our students and one of the many things we speak to parents about when their children start in the ELC. 

Exceeding National Standards

In 2021, the Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School Early Learning Centre received the highest possible rating under the National Quality Framework and was rated as "Exceeding National Quality Standard" in all seven areas of assessment. The National Quality Standard (NQS) sets a national benchmark for the quality of children’s education and care services across Australia.
