Commencing International Students
On-campus Orientation sessions occur five times per academic year. If a student begins outside of these sessions, they must complete an online orientation. They can then choose to attend an on-campus Orientation when the next session is held.
Subject offerings will be released in August, 2024. These will be available via the JCU subject search function.
The 2025 acacemic calendars are available at www.jcu.edu.au/students/academic-calendars
You can view the trimester start and end dates. The break between trimesters varies, but is usually between 2-3 weeks.
Subject offerings and timings are yet to be determined.
This information will be available in August 2024 via the JCU subject search function.
The move to trimesters will not affect visa requirements for international students following their approved study plan. The study plan ensures that students complete their course in the established timeframe specified in their visa.
International students need to enrol in and complete a full-time course load, which typically consists of nine credit points per trimester (equivalent to three subjects). Additional subject enrolment is subject to approval from the relevant College.
Study Abroad and Exchange Students
Study Abroad/Exchange students can attend three consecutive trimesters, completing a full year of study.
Study Abroad/Exchange students can take up to four subjects per trimester without needing special approval from their home institution.
However, it's important to note that this exceeds the standard trimester subject load of three subjects. Students should choose their subjects wisely to manage their workload effectively.
