A Minns Labor Government will make life easier for growing communities across the state by increasing funding in the transport budget for active transport infrastructure with a $60 million investment. 

Increasing funding in the transport budget for walking & cycling infrastructure 

Labor will create a new fund to build more footpaths, cycle paths and other active transport infrastructure around community hubs like schools and stations which are needed by growing communities across NSW. 

Currently, the transport budget has appropriated $60 million over the next four years towards active transport projects and upgrades. 

Labor will top this up with an additional $15 millionper year over four years, doubling the funding available in the transport budget for walking and cycling infrastructure.

Labor’s commitment brings the total funding for active transport infrastructure in the transport budget to $120 million.

Priority areas – Western Sydney & the regions 

The fund will prioritise greenfield developments, where the availability of footpaths and cycle paths that connect to community hubs like schools and stations doesn’t keep up with the development of new homes, even once families have moved in.

This means that Western Sydney and the regionswill enjoy the most benefit from this commitment.
