We’ve teamed up with climate & transport advocates around the country to help everyday Kiwis have a say on the government’s draft General Policy Statement on land transport (a.k.a. “GPS 2024”). The proposed policy locks in car dependency for the next 10 years, and pushes freight off the rails onto our already-damaged roads ⚠️ That means more traffic jams ⛔️ higher costs 💸 increased pollution 🔥 and more traffic deaths 💀 This policy affects us all!. Transport and climate advocates strongly oppose the proposed transport policy. It goes against all evidence of what makes a more reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable transport system. We need everyone to make a submission before the 2 April deadline so that we can re-route quickly ⤵️ We’ve pull together advice from experts & advocates who have read the document, so that members of the general public (like you!) can amplify their voice and easily write a submission for a better transport future for all 🌱🙌 Submission guide 👉 bit.ly/transport-gps More info 👉 transport4all.org.nz

Transport makes up 20% of NZ's emissions - and we have the solutions! 🚄
📈 Thousands of people have now signed the petition that calls for funding for the Te Huia Akl-Hmtn train service to be continued - you can sign too 📈 https://bit.ly/SignTeHuia With transport as our second biggest source of emissions, passenger trains are a great way to reduce long distance driving and give people a comfortable way to travel around the country. Even if you're not in Hamilton or Auckland and have never used the service, getting passenger trains up and running in the Golden Triangle can make it much easier to grow the network around the rest of New Zealand. Also big thanks to the organisations that have signed the letter to the NZTA Waka Kotahi board urging them to continue the funding when they meet tomorrow Climate Club NZ Women in Urbanism Aotearoa (WiUA) Living Streets Aotearoa The Future Is Rail All Aboard

We are proud to be delivering Climate Fresk Aotearoa workshops for Hamilton City Council over the coming months, as as part of HCC's Climate Change Strategy. Climate Fresk is a scalable science communication tool that translates the IPCC climate science into a fun, collaborative game. Participants solve a puzzle using a series of cards to gain a 'big picture' understanding of what's happening to our Earth. They then enter a creativity phase to encourage out-of-the-box thinking, and explore actions that will make the greatest impact. Delivering Climate Fresk through communities enables co-designed climate responses and actions to be identified. We will also be training 16 Climate Fresk facilitators in Kirikiriroa Hamilton! Help Secure the Future of Te Huia: Sign the Petition Today! Funding for Te Huia Hamilton-Auckland passenger train is at risk. This train service has not only surpassed its patronage targets but also has ambitious plans for expansion, including additional stations throughout the Waikato and potential extension to Tauranga. Even if you're not located in Hamilton or Auckland and have yet to experience the service firsthand, your support is crucial. Strengthening passenger rail in the golden triangle will pave the way for a more interconnected and accessible network across all of Aotearoa. Add your voice to the cause by signing the petition now - https://lnkd.in/gKZqkg5E

Get ready Tāmaki Makaurau, we're uniting at 1pm at Aotea Square on Queen Street Saturday 08 June 2024 to protest the Fast Track Approvals Bill (2024). Transport, climate, and environment are intimately linked. The Bill makes no meaningful mention of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and it does not require decisions about consenting projects to be aligned with the Emissions Reduction Plan or with the Climate Change Response Act. All Aboard will continue stating it: The Fast-Track Approvals Bill needs to be abandoned. As a proud member of Communities Against Fast Track (CAFT), we will be marching alongside inspiring organisations such as Greenpeace Aotearoa, Coromandel Watchdog of Hauraki, Environment Conservation Group, Kiwis Against Seabed Mining, WWF-New Zealand, Forest & Bird, and many more! See you there!
The Luxon Govt's reckless attack on environmental protection with the #FastTrack Bill is a #WarOnNature, which undermines democracy and Te Tiriti. It's time to march! Join the March for Nature! Sat June 8 at 1pm in Auckland at Aotea Square on Queen St. https://lnkd.in/gidUuvsH #nzpol #newzealand #auckland #protest #march

Mōrena, and Happy Tuesday which means newsletter day! 🌞 This week we explore the exciting news of a recent pivot on the Fast-Track Bill! Chris Bishop, the Minister behind the Fast-Track legislation, is considering backtracking on some key components after feeling the pressure from opposition—including from our very own voices. This is excellent news as it shows the impact of public pressure, and now it is our task to maintain that momentum and ensure our voices are heard as the Select Committee takes on the bill!
