  • This Anzac Day marks the 109th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. We pause to remember and pay tribute to the service and sacrifices made by Australians from the first landing in Gallipoli, to the men and women currently serving. We encourage everyone to commemorate Anzac Day however they can, from wherever they are, in acknowledgement of the generations of service in our Australian Defence Force. #AnzacDay2024 #AnzacDay #LestWeForget

  • To commemorate Anzac Day, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is in Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Track with PNG Prime Minister James Marape. Each year many Australians take on the challenge of walking the Kokoda Track, alongside Papua New Guineans, to not only test their limits, but to reflect on the events that took place. The trek retraces the footsteps of Australian soldiers and those who walked alongside them during the Kokoda campaign from July to November 1942. The Prime Minister will spend two days walking the Kokoda Track before standing shoulder to shoulder with Australians and Papua New Guineans at the annual Anzac Day Dawn Service at the Isurava memorial site.

  • “… All of those things are critically important for us to do now to stave off catastrophe in the future.” With vibrant engagement and discussion, PM&C staff recently heard from Sophie Howe, former Welsh Commissioner for Future Generations (2016–23). In the seminar hosted by PM&C's Deputy Secretary Liz Hefren-Webb, Ms Howe shared key lessons and achievements from her time as Commissioner and shared her thoughts on how the experiences of Wales may inform policy development in Australia. Ms Howe was the first Future Generations Commissioner for Wales and is currently an adviser on wellbeing and intergenerational equity to a number of national and international organisations. Established as part of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, the Commissioner's role is to help public bodies and Welsh policy makers to uphold the objectives of the Act by actively considering the long-term impact policy decisions have on current and future generations.

  • On Wednesday evening, Padma Raman PSM, Executive Director of our Office for Women, gave a keynote address at the 2024 Sir Roland Wilson Foundation Alumni networking event. Padma spoke about the important links between gender equality in public policy development and academia noting: ‘I can’t stress how valuable these [scholarship] opportunities are. To have the time and space to look at a problem from all sides. To get the chance to thoroughly consider what works. And then to apply what you learn.’ The Sir Roland Wilson foundation at The Australian National University provides scholarships that invest in research and development opportunities for public servants. They bring back to their agencies leadership, new connections with academia and expertise in research and evidence gathering.
