The Australian Centre for Space Governance recently held a successful workshop titled 'Securing Australia through Space' which explored the theme through various perspectives and featured international experts from academia, industry, and government. We're proud of ACSG's capability, as a mission supported by the ANU InSpace, in advancing the agenda for responsible space governance to solve national and global space governance challenges. The ACSG will be distributing a series of policy papers that reflect the workshop themes in the coming months.
In case you missed it: We at the Australian Centre for Space Governance (ACSG) have been expanding our online presence. On our website, you can learn about our recent events, publications, parliamentary submissions, and explore profiles of our Steering Committee members, who are internationally recognised experts from various multidisciplinary fields. Last month, ACSG held a workshop titled 'Securing Australia through Space.' This event addressed the question, "What does Australia need to secure, and how can space help to secure it?" In collaboration with UNSW Canberra and Space Command, the workshop featured experts from the federal government, academia, and industry. This workshop facilitated rich interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral discussions, highlighting the importance of varied perspectives in space governance. Thank you to all who came out to ANU InSpace HQ this past Wednesday for our CBR Space Industry Cooperative Space Breakfast. The morning featured an excellent panel discussion on the relevance of space-enabled capabilities for the Asia Pacific region, with panellists Mani Thiru, Nicolette Yeo, James Prior, and ANU InSpace Associate Director Strategic Projects Kate Ferguson, and moderated by Karen Schilling. The dynamic discussion led to many key takeaways for future collaborations in space capabilities for Australia and the Asia Pacific region. ANU InSpace Business Development Manager Christopher Kourloufas says, "What resonated most with me was Mani’s call to the space industry to consider opportunities beyond the 'go-to' options. This is exactly what our engagement with the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific researchers has revealed to us. Space data and technologies can enrich so many fields, and we’re working together with our researchers, government, and industry to see how we can bring value to society in new ways." We’re so pleased to have hosted this opportunity for networking and resource-sharing within the space community. ANU InSpace Marketing Manager Krysia Derecki says, "This was such a great event for InSpace to host, bringing the space community together thanks to the CBR Space Industry Cooperative’s breakfast event initiative. We are all passionate about communicating the good news stories that space is about innovation, technological advancement, and regional collaboration, all of which help make life better for people on earth." Special thanks to ACT Government for your support of this event, and to Bella's Feast for catering a beautiful breakfast. We look forward to seeing you all at the next CBR Space Breakfast!

ANU InSpace Director Professor Anna Moore was delighted to visit the ACT Legislative Building last Wednesday 27th March to chat with Minister Mick Gentlemen about preventative bushfire management to enhance future forecasting using satellite technology, in support of colleagues Marta Yebra, Director at the Bushfire Research Centre of Excellence, and Ken Hall, Director Operations at ACT Rural Fire Service. It was great to meet the minister again, who has always been supportive of technological advancements from the region, and how they can be used to solve society's biggest challenges. InSpace is honoured to be a part of advancing bushfire management solutions for Australia.

ANU InSpace is looking forward to hosting this event, with an engaging panel and vibrant conversation with our space community. We hope to see you there!
CBR Space Industry Cooperative is happy to announce that our next CBR Space Breakfast will take place on Wednesday 10th April hosted by ANU InSpace. With our kick off event covering the broad topic of How to make EO relevant, the next CBR Space Breakfast event on Wednesday 10th April will focus on Space as critical infrastructure and what this means for the Asia Pacific region. Taking place in ANU InSpace's offices at 121 Marcus Clarke St in the city, this event will start with networking over breakfast and coffee, followed by a panel discussion that investigates where opportunities exist in our back yard. The panel discussion will consider: - Where can the application of space systems be relevant in the Asia-Pacific region? - What are the commercial market opportunities – data vs information? - How can Canberra-based organisations become more involved in bringing the benefits of space to the Asia-Pacific? The goal of these events is to create more collaborative opportunities to grow space activities in the nations capital and we are proud to have the support of the ACT Government to help make these events happen. The event starts at 830am with the discussion panel taking place from 900-920am before wrapping up at 1000am. InSpace was thrilled to host Jarrod Powell — General Manager, National Space Capability, Technology and Programs at the Australian Space Agency, to showcase key space capabilities at ANU that have been supported by the ASA. The visit included the new space radiation beamline at the Heavy Ion Accelerators Facility and the National Space Test Facility, both of which received funding from the ASA's Space Infrastructure Fund. These facilities provide space qualification capabilities to accelerate Australian space manufacturing growth and ensure high levels of reliability for mission success. We also toured the newly opened ANU Quantum Optical Ground Station, which will be upgraded with lunar optical communication capabilities through the ASA's Moon to Mars Demonstrator Mission Grants. This facility will provide high speed, high capacity, and secure satellite communications to help meet the growing global demand for space-to-ground communications.
