Six projects in the North West have gained $4.6m in funding from the federal Regional Connectivity Program.

It's part of a $90 million program is delivering 81 place-based solutions to digital connectivity issues in the regions through a range of mobile and broadband services.
Senator Susan McDonald said the upgrades would affect wireless broadband, 4G telecommunications and EFTPOS capabilities in Dajarra, Etta Plains (north-west of Cloncurry), Julia Creek, Mount Isa, Stamford and the Wellesley Islands.
"People living and travelling in these areas will have access to improved broadband services and data, delivering fast, affordable and reliable connectivity," Senator McDonald said.
"This will help keep our businesses connected, our families stay in touch and mean we can better access health, education and online services on the go."
The projects are expected to be completed by June 2022.
Dajarra - Upgrade to existing 3G-only Telstra base station, including upgrades to backhaul capacity, to provide 4G coverage. Funding: $1,314,300
Etta Plains - High speed fixed wireless broadband, backhaul, free public WIFI and a free LoRaWAN network to 881,000 ha in the Gulf Region. The project, with Wi-Sky QLD, will involve construction of a series of Wi-Sky repeaters and micro towers connecting to Wi-Sky's existing fibre backhaul at Julia Creek. Funding: $152,250
Julia Creek - High speed fixed wireless broadband, backhaul, free public WiFi and a free LoRaWAN network to 21,000 square kilometres along the Flinders Highway between Richmond and Julia Creek. Funding: $141,000
Mount Isa - New 4GX small cell in Lake Moondarra. Funding: $144,906
Stamford - High speed fixed wireless broadband, backhaul, free public WiFi and a free LoRaWAN network to 21,000 square kilometres along the Flinders Highway between Richmond and Stamford. Funding: $202,000
Wellesley Islands - Capacity upgrade for existing 4GX mobile facility in Gununa on Mornington Island, supported by upgrades to existing fibre optic infrastructure and network exchanges between Mount Isa and Point Parker and a new greenfield site between Barkley River and Century Mine, to improve backhaul capacity to the Mornington Island site. Funding: $2,661,731.
