Kainga Ora has bought nine Dunedin homes to help meet the demand for transitional housing.

The state-owned social housing provider confirmed it had purchased 21 and 23 City Rd, Roslyn as part of the Government’s initiative to provide more public housing to meet increasing demand.

Eight of the homes were at 23 City Rd, which was an apartment block, and the remaining one was at 21 City Rd.

In a statement, Kainga Ora Otago Southland regional director Kerrie Young said the homes would be used to meet urgent need for transitional housing in the city.

Transitional housing differed from emergency housing, being used for people with an immediate need while support was put in place to move them into long-term sustainable housing.

Emergency housing was for people and families in urgent need of accommodation because they had nowhere to stay overnight or the next few days.

The Roslyn homes, and its tenancies, would be managed by Emerge Aotearoa, Ms Young said.

The property settlement was completed on October 29. Contractors would complete minor maintenance work in the coming weeks.

It was hoped people would be moved in before Christmas.

It is going really well for Motel owner's.
Labour has failed and failed badly but little to nothing cones out in the press.
