Dr
Shane
Reti
to the Minister of Health (24 Aug 2020): Was the coronavirus-positive person who flew from New Zealand to South Korea genome tested, and if so, what was the genome strain?
Hon
Chris
Hipkins
(Minister of Health) replied: I am advised that whole genomic sequencing for the case, who left New Zealand and arrived in the Republic of Korea on 22 July 2020 and tested positive for COVID-19, was attempted. However, due to insufficient genetic material the strain type that the virus belongs to could not be conclusively established.
