Introduction

Your registration renewal notice will tell you the date registration is due for your taxi. It will also tell you if there are any special requirements before registration can be granted.

All taxis need:

  • a safety inspection once a year, regardless of the age of the vehicle
  • 12-month compulsory third party (CTP) insurance.

You can renew your taxi registration online or by visiting a Service NSW Centre.

What you need

If renewing online, you’ll need:

  • the vehicle's plate number or the billing number (available on your paper or digital renewal notice and digital Certificate of Registration)
  • your compulsory third party (CTP) insurance policy, commonly called a green slip
Note: You can choose either a fixed annual premium or pay per kilometre.
  • your safety inspection report, commonly called a pink slip
  • payment (if applicable).

If renewing at a service centre, you’ll need:

  • your proof of identity
  • your registration renewal notice
  • the completed form Replacement Application – PDF (if you don't have the renewal notice)
  • your CTP receipt details
  • your safety inspection report (sent electronically to Transport for NSW).

How to renew

Online

  1. Select the 'Renew online' button.
  2. Follow the prompts to renew a taxi registration.
  3. Keep a copy of the receipt for your records.

In person at a service centre

  1. Gather the required documents.

Payment methods

You can review transaction payment options on our payment methods page.

Note: If you choose to pay with BPAY, keep in mind that it takes 2 or 3 business days to process, and the registration will not be renewed until Transport for NSW receives the full payment.

More information

  • Inspection reports for light vehicles are only valid for 6 months from the date of issue. They must be used to renew a registration within those 6 months.
  • Most insurers will send your CTP information electronically to Transport for NSW.
