SSV Student Leaders Program

The SSV Student Leaders Program has been running for the past two years with over 38 students taking part. SSV is currently in the process of reviewing the program and as a result, the program will not open for applications for next year at this time.

SSV remains committed to ensuring students have a strong voice in our work and in the interim we will continue to look at ways to facilitate student engagement with SSV programs.

Any updates on the Student Leaders Program for 2024 will be posted on the SSV social media channels and in the SSV eNews.

2023 Student Leaders Program Information

School Sport Victoria (SSV) is on the hunt for students to join SSV's 2023 - Student Leaders Group.

The aim of the Student Leaders Program will be to provide feedback and advice to School Sport Victoria to help guide and shape the future of school sport.

Topics covered by the group may include:

  • Understanding what motivates Victorian students to be involved in school sport
  • Ensuring that a safe and enjoyable environment is provided for all students to participate in school sport regardless of their fitness, experience, or skill level.
  • Approaches to re-engage students back into playing school sport including reducing dropout
  • How to increase participation and reduce barriers for students and schools in regional Victoria, girls and students with a disability
  • Ways to engage students in other aspects of school sport beyond participation (e.g. umpiring, coaching, event planning etc)
  • Addressing barriers to students continuing to participate in sport outside of school

The SSV Student Leaders Group will involve a 12-month commitment (throughout the 2023 school year) with sessions twice a term.

The first session will be a face-to-face session in Melbourne in Term 1, 2023 (for those students who can attend in person, other students will join in online). The remaining sessions will be, virtual group discussions led by two facilitators who have a background in Australian sport.  The program will give students the opportunity to get to know a pair of Australian sporting personalities and also build the confidence to speak, lead and provide feedback within an encouraging and welcoming environment.

SSV will select a group of around 20 students ranging from years 5 to 12, with students of all backgrounds, abilities, genders, and schools encouraged to apply.
