Between 2012 and 2017, the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) was funded through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) to undertake a project focussed on self-management of diabetes and other chronic conditions during and after a natural disaster.

Several resources were produced:

1.      Resources for people with diabetes, including a pamphlet ‘My Diabetes Emergency Plan’, a poster ‘Make a Plan. Manage Diabetes in an Emergency’ and a set of Frequently Asked Questions. These resources were translated into Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Vietnamese, Turkish and Arabic.

2.      A guide to the needs of people with diabetes and other chronic conditions in natural disasters for local councils, emergency services and the not-for-profit sector.

3.      A two-part online learning module for health professionals.

4.      A Stakeholder Action Kit

ADEA is conducting a review and update of these resources to ensure ongoing access to high quality and current resources. As part of the review we are seeking feedback on all resources, and more generally on diabetes management during natural disasters from a wide range of stakeholders, including people with diabetes, Credentialled Diabetes Educators, emergency services and management organisations, peak health organisations, and other organisations.

Please use this form to provide feedback. You can either use the textbox provided, or upload a word document file.

Providing feedback is voluntary. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jen Lewis on 02 6173 1016 or jennifer.lewis@adea.com.au.
