Queensland: Uber, in collaboration with Queensland, Australia, launched underwater rides to the Great Barrier Reef on May 27. The scUber, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, is the world's first submarine ride-share service.

The one-hour underwater tour was described as "a cross between Finding Nemo and a Bond movie" by David Wachenfeld, chief scientist at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The ride will give an underwater experience to the home of 3,000 individual reefs, 900 islands and over 1,500 species of fish.

The submarine service is designed to support the protection of the coral reef system. Uber has partnered with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef to support their conservation initiatives for the world's largest ecosystem.

The experience is available on Heron Island until June 3 and on Agincourt Reed, off Port Douglas, from June 9-18. Reportedly, 40 riders have the opportunity to request the unique experience directly through the uber app. The requests will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

A scUber ride costs  A$3,000 (Rs 1.45 lakh approximately) for two people, which includes pick-up and drop-off to the accommodation in Tesla Uber, scenic helicopter ride to Heron or boat transfer from Port Douglas to Agincourt Reef, one hour ride in the scUber submarine and a half-day of touring the Great Barrier Reef.

The Great Barrier Reef is a world heritage site since 1981 and is the world's first reef ecosystem to be recognised by UNESCO.
