Accepted Items

To help you manage your waste wisely, the West Metro Recycling Centre accepts a wide range of items for general recycling, specialist recycling and safe disposal.

 

What’s accepted for FREE?

FREE drop off items

Conditions

Aluminium & Steel Cans clean and empty
Bicycles our charity partner Dismantle is currently at capacity and not accepting donations. Bikes can still be dropped off, however they will be recycled as scrap metal.
Cardboard flattened, with tape removed
Clothing clean, good quality and useable
Cooking oil (up to 20L) plant based oils (no animal fats)
Corks Wine corks (no corkboards or other cork products)
E-Waste TVs, computers, mobile phones, electronics and accessories
Glass bottles and jars clean and empty
Household Hazardous Waste (up to 20kg / 20L) including aerosols, batteries, globes, fire-extinguishers, flares, gas bottles, household chemicals, paint (up to 100L), smoke detectors, poisons and more…
Motor oil (up to 20L) oil must remain in container dropped off in
Plastic plant pots empty, no seedling trays please. If you need some pots, help yourself!
Paper not shredded
Plastic bottles and containers clean and empty, lids off
Plastic bottle lids clean lids, smaller than 10cm diameter, no colour separation required.
Polystyrene bulk, no food containers or pellets
Scrap metal includes but is not limited to: old metal BBQs, broken washing machines and tumble-dryers
Sheets & towels flat sheets, pillowcases, towels, tea towels (no pillows, sleeping bags, or anything with stuffing)
Sporting goods as a drop-off point for Fair Game, we accept clean, quality used sporting equipment
Stationery unused exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, markers, scissors and pencil cases in good condition (no lever arch files please)
X-rays remove from envelopes

Conditions / Types

Asbestos asbestos requires careful handling. Please follow our guidelines before bringing asbestos sheets to the Recycling Centre
Bulk Waste including broken furniture, treated timbers, etc. Qualify for Verge Valet®? You can book a bulk waste collection! Waste passes can be used, click here for more details.
Construction and Demolition Waste asphalt, bricks, concrete, pavers, tiles and sand
Greenwaste garden prunings (excluding lawn clippings), weeds, tree stumps. Qualify for Verge Valet™? You can book a green waste collection!
Mattresses bed bases accepted at additional cost.
Refrigerated Appliances fridges, freezers, air-conditioning units. A de-gassing fee applies.
Tyres car, bike, truck – different rates for different sizes.
