Harmony Day - Everyone Belongs
This week we celebrated Harmony Day - a time when we learn more about multiculturalism with stories from the many different cultures at Yates. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural background and united by a set of core values.
Thank you to Mrs Gale and Mrs Dyball for their efforts in organising the festivities.
It was great to enjoy Easter celebrations in Week 9 with the K-2 hat parade and 3-6 egg design. It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members supporting their children and enjoying the occasion.
Thanks to the P & C for selling raffle tickets and organising prizes & guessing competitions in the weeks prior. Your support is always appreciated.
Thanks also to Mrs Dowell and Mrs Dyball for organising the festivities and giving us a wonderful Easter celebration.
Effective and Systematic Teaching (EaST) network of schools
On 22nd March, Yates hosted a meeting of 17 schools in the EaST network, a group focused on improving learning outcomes through explicit teaching, with schools represented from the Newcastle, Central Coast, Sydney and Nowra areas.
The Secretary of NSW Department of Education - Murat Dizdar - attended, along with other senior executives and the CEO of the Australian Education Research Organisation, Dr Jenny Donovan.
Over the last 12 months, the EaST network has created explicit teaching units of work for mathematics, to support teachers with the new syllabus, and shared them with schools across the state. These resources were also shared with Department personnel on the day.
Thank you to Miss Kim and Miss Walter who gave outstanding demonstration lessons to our guests, highlighting the explicit teaching model at Yates. The work created by this network is supporting teachers to be great educators, and students to be highly successful learners in mathematics.

Term 1 Attendance Awards
Consistent school attendance is highly valued at Yates as it ensures students receive high-quality learning opportunities every day. At the end of each term, we acknowledge students with 98+% attendance (allowing for 1 day absent) with a Principal's attendance award, in recognition of this achievement. Today, over 40% of students received this award - our highest number since starting this initiative!
Zone Rugby League
Congratulations to Loni Katoa who recently gained selection into the Auburn/Merrylands/Parramatta Rugby League Under 11 and 12 years teams. Loni played in the Sydney West carnival and represented his side with pride and passion. Being an accomplished rugby league and union player, Loni is destined for many more representative jerseys in the years ahead. Congratulations, Loni!
