You can use the new recreational fishing app when you are in a remote location or have limited mobile signal reception. The app uses cached species information and simplified mapping information as part of its offline functionality.

The new recreational fishing app uses artificial intelligence to help you identify your catch. Help us grow the fish ID database so you get the most out of this new feature — the more images in the database, the more accurate the fish ID tool will be.

Can I fish here?

The layers selection pallet, on the Can I fish here page, does not turn off. It covers the entire screen and has no close button. The only way out of it is to close the app.

Generally the app is useful but it’s the same wording from the fisheries website. Which I find very confusing. I was hoping this would be easier to understand. It isn’t.

I am still in the dark as to where I can spearfish.

Overall a useful app

Overall a useful app especially the species info and the ‘Can I fish’ here page.

It seems to struggle to open when you’ve got low or no signal while it hunts to log in. I find it better to switch to airplane mode if the signal is low then it opens up faster.

The fish species photos are also a bit vague and could be improved - better ones on the internet usually. But it’s still a handy app.

Great initiative but Can I Fish here unreliable

When trying to use can I fish here when on the water in Moreton Bay when I tap the location icon it has never shown my position accurately on the map, generally out by kilometres. For example when easy of St Helena the map showed me near the Wynnum foreshore. I have tried it a few times across multiple days and hasn’t shown my location on water accurately yet. Strange ly while on land my location is more accurate
