Early Years Wellbeing Pathway

wings to fly

This two-day (12 hour) workshop supports early years educators to develop the knowledge and skills they need to deliver Wings to Fly™, a social and emotional wellbeing program for children from birth to six years old. Participants will engage in critical conversations and experiential content that explore current research in neuroscience, developmental and cognitive psychology, and attachment theory to reflect upon their practice. The focus will be upon building a way of working that supports a child’s capacity to do well.

The Wings to Fly™ training is endorsed by the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Wings to Fly™ is included on the Victorian Government’s School Readiness Funding Menu of Evidence-Informed Programs and Supports.

Wings to Fly has been independently reviewed and is listed in the Be You Programs Directory. It meets the minimum evidence requirements set by Be You and has been awarded a rating for evidence and implementation.

brain development in the early years

In this two-hour workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the sequential and hierarchical manner in which the brain develops, and consider the implications for educators working with young children, and children’s capacity to learn. Educators will explore a developmentally-appropriate lens through which to view a child’s responses, and strategies to help children when they become overwhelmed.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

looking beyond behaviour

This two-hour workshop explores a way to rethink challenging behaviour and considers the ways in which educators’ responses can help a child build the ability to regulate and respond differently. Participants will reflect on their attitudes and beliefs around behaviour and intention and, through the lens of neuroscience, will learn how to understand the experiences of and reach children who are struggling.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

Infants & Toddlers: Research to Practice

Over two-hours, educators in this workshop will explore the needs and development of infants and toddlers. They will gain a deeper knowledge of current research in neuroscience and developmental psychology, and explore recommended pedagogical practices. Focus will be on reflecting on current practices to identify changes that might be made to support children at this most influential time of brain development.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

Trauma and attachment in the classroom

In this two-hour workshop, educators will gain a deeper understanding of the brain state associated with trauma, the impact of implicit memory on the ability of these children to feel safe, and adaptive behaviours that may present themselves in a school setting. Participants will be provided with strategies that can help to bring balance and safety to the experience of children who have been impacted by trauma or disrupted attachment and enable them to move from survival to learning.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

Building Resilience in Families

This two-hour workshop provides educators with a tool kit of strategies to share with families that support and strengthen the resilience of children. Participants will gain knowledge about the types of communication and interactions which build perseverance and flexibility, and learn how to support children in developing an awareness of their emotions and responses.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

an introduction to mindfulness

This two-hour experiential workshop provides participants with tools and strategies to regulate themselves, increase their self-awareness and respond mindfully to daily challenges. Educators will gain an understanding of the ways in which a personal mindfulness practice can promote resilience and wellbeing, and help to build a positive learning environment. They will also explore ways to bring mindfulness into their daily lives.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

an introduction to self-care

This two-hour interactive workshop explores the ways in which stress can impact brain function. Participants engage with reflective tools that enable them to develop both an awareness of the messages their body is communicating, and the impact of their thoughts and emotions on their wellbeing. They step through a number of processes, creative and cognitive, that can increase their capacity to regulate during stressful experiences, and explore short and long-term self-care strategies.

Please note: All two-hour workshops require An Introduction to Neuroscience for Educators to be attended as a prerequisite.

Everyone should do this training.

It was informative, engaging and best of all practical and useful.

It opens conversations and challenges mindsets.

A great link between research and practical strategies.

This training encourages self reflection. It allows you to evaluate your current interactions with children and offers you a better understanding of how to help them achieve a happy healthy future.
